As artificial intelligence (AI) rapidly evolves, the construction of data centers in Israel has become increasingly necessary to support national technological and economic development. However, data centers are extremely power-intensive. A standard 50-megawatt data center can consume electricity equivalent to that used by roughly 10,000 households.
In response to this challenge, on February 19, 2026, the Israeli Ministry of Finance, Budget Department issued interim recommendations for an inter-ministerial plan titled “The Inter-Ministerial Interim Recommendations on Energy for Data Server Farms” (Press link for source). The proposed plan seeks to coordinate the expansion of data centers while managing their impact on the national grid.
